MYANMAR
Conflict between the Myanmar Military and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has escalated in recent weeks. In Tanai Township, there have been reports of civilians who have been killed or injured, while about 1,800 people have been evacuated from the area because of fighting. Most of those affected are laborers who have been assisted to return to their places of origin. There are also reports of other civilians still in the conflict-affected area who are unable to leave and who are facing food shortages. Humanitarian access to the Tanai area is severely restricted, but local humanitarian organizations are responding to the immediate needs of people arriving to safe areas in Tanai Town.

INDONESIA
On 4 January, heavy rains in Bogor triggered landslides in four locations along the road from Salak Mountain to Jakarta. The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) predicted that heavy rains will continue over the coming days, with up 152 mm rainfall per day, and that the flooding will reach Jakarta on the evening of 5 February. On 1 February, heavy rains also caused floods and landslides in Jayapura City, Papua Province, with many villages inundated. On 2 February, heavy rains and intense winds hit Cilacap District in Central Java Province, causing one death and affecting 161 houses. Local disaster management agencies are coordinating support for the disaster-affected people.

PHILIPPINES
Mayon Volcano remains on Level 4 alert. As of 5 February, 86,000 people are affected, with 65,000 people staying in 59 evacuation centres. A total of 57 schools and 91,300 students within the 6-9-kilometer danger zones are affected. The current cost of damage to agriculture is estimated at Php.165M (US$3.3M), with the livelihoods of more than 10,000 farmers affected. The volcano continues to generate lava and ash plumes up to 500 metres high. The seismic monitoring network has recorded a total of 164 volcanic earthquakes. The national government, regional government line agencies, NGOs, and the local government units are providing assistance to the affected population. The Department of Health has distributed water purification tablets and deployed medical teams to evacuation centers.

AFGHANISTAN
A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck on 30 January with its epicenter in the north-east of the country close to the Pakistan border in the region south of Fayzabad, Badakhshan. It had a depth of 191.2 kilometers (119 miles). It was felt by more than 20 million people in Afghanistan including in Kabul, but did not cause any major damage. In Pakistan, one person was killed and eight injured in Balochistan province.
